Training for young horses
From groundwork to saddle training, we focus on creating a strong bond between horse and rider while promoting health, safety, and enjoyment in every session. Our methods combine gentle, positive reinforcement techniques to ensure a solid foundation in obedience and confidence. Whether you aim for trail riding, show jumping, or simply a happy companion, we want to give your horse the best start in life.
Each horse is an individual and we will discuss with you what are the goals for training. We teach groundwork, lunging and the basics of riding and traffic safety.
Your horse will live in a group or alone, depending on your wishes and our capacity. Unfortunately we don’t have suitable spaces for stallions at the moment and therefore can only accept mares and geldings. We don’t have boxes, all of our horses live outside and have access to a shelter when the weather is bad.
The horse stays at our farm for a minimum of 3 months to ensure we have enough time to safely get to know the horse and train consistently without having to hurry up the process. The length of the time for training depends on your own goals for the horse and the training the horse already has. We provide weekly updates with photos.
We happily take both horses and ponies of any size, but please note that if you wish to start your horse with training under the saddle they must be at least 3 years old and big enough to carry a rider weighing 60 kg.
Training for groundwork, lunging etc. there is no size limit.
The basic principles for training are as follows:
- Brief but frequent sessions (10-15 minute long sessions daily, or a couple of these mini sessions per day few days a week)
- Focusing on general movement, nothing sport-specific
- Allowing the horse plenty of time to pause and process what they’re doing during any session
- Avoiding exercises involving excessive speed and/or intensity
- Not restricting the horse into any particular frame and allow the horse to find a neutral balance on its own
